Afghan Hounds are extremely gentle animals, however they do not respond well to meeting new friends. It will generally take him quite a bit of time to warm up to your extended family and friends. Some people view the Afghan Hound as aloof or standoffish. They are misunderstood. They are very gentle and would love to play with kids in the house. You will want to supervise play time with children simply because of their size. The Afghan Hound can weigh between 50-60 pounds.
When you introduce your Afghan Hound to extended family and friends you may want them to offer him a small dog treat. If they continue to do this over repeated visits. They will eventually start to warm up to them.
